Welcome to the new, and much shorter, weekly updates.
Luckily for you, there's not really any updates as the Hawks were (and still are) on their bye week for All-Star weekend.
How's that going by the way?
Ok.
Last Friday I dropped an article (can blog posts be called that?) about Alex Vlasic. You can check it out here.
For this week's blog/article/incoherent ramblings, I'm thinking of two topics. Option 1, write about the trade deadline. That's boring because all Kyle Davidson has to offer to any team is a wet towel and a bag of chips.
Or option 2, Lukas Reichel. The Reichel thing is a horse beaten to death by every beat writer that PETA is getting involved.
We'll see.
I also created a Blackhawks History Instagram. Link to a post below.
Other than that, let's recount the previous week.
Weekly Updates
The last Hawks game was on Saturday, Jan. 27, a 1-0 loss to the Calgary Flames that broke Blackhawks history with 20 consecutive road game losses.
On Jan. 28 Cole Guttman and Louis Crevier were sent down to Rockford. Most likely because of the All-Star break. In the 3 games that they have been there, only Guttman scored a point (1 assist).
This week didn't see much other than some rumblings and musings on Andrei Kuzemenko. Some people thought his contract would make sense for the Hawks to take on in a trade (it did). Then Kuzemenko was traded to Calgary who got an absolute haul.
Tyler Johnson was noted as being linked to the New York Rangers for trade talks. He's the equivalent of a wet towel in terms of what Kyle Davidson has to offer.
A contract grievance regarding the termination of Corey Perry's contract was "threatened." The original deadline to file an appeal was Jan. 31st. According to Friedman, that deadline has been extended.
From The Athletic, NHL players voted the Hawks jersey as the best in the league (yeah, I'm scraping for content).
The Week Ahead
- vs Wild 2/7 @ 8:30pm CT
- vs Rangers 2/9 @7:30pm CT
Don't worry Blackhawks fans. The suffering doesn't resume until Wednesday, Feb. 7.
The Hawks begin a weird stretch of home games starting with a struggling Wild team. There are 10 games in February and only 1 of them are on the road. This is good for the Hawks because we don't need to watch them set new records losing on the road.
If there's a team the Hawks should beat this week, it's the Wild. And by should, I mean "fight tooth and nail for a point." We all know how this team fairs against other teams that are bad.
The Rangers game won't be easy. The Blue Shirts are not the hot team they were to start the season. They might be looking for a morale boost and what better way to get one than embarrassing a Hawks team on a Friday night?

That's it for now. I hope you liked the new format of the weekly updates. If there were games played, I would only cover the results and stats. For games that are worthy of analysis, there will be separate posts.
A big thanks to everyone who reads this. Please, let me know what you think and if there's anything you would like to see.
