Hawks Weekly Update 4/28
We're moving to greener pastures.
I'm going to open things up with an update on the blog.
We're moving.
I'm taking this beast over to Substack. The big reason is cost. It's expensive keeping this website up on Ghost, and this is a hobby that I don't intend on profiting from anyway.
Nothing will change. You'll still get your weekly Hawks updates. I'm not going anywhere unless real life takes over.
For now, the current website will be up while I'm in the process of migrating everything over to Substack. Once everything has been migrated, eatthehatchet.com will direct you to my Substack and this will revert to eatthehatchet.ghost.com, which will cease. If you're confused, this is basically like the Coyotes moving to Utah and staying in Arizona at the same time.
For the subscribers, first of all, thank you for reading this. It truly means a lot. I started blogging about the Hawks last August and created ETH in December. It's been a great way to follow a team that I love and learn about the best sport on the planet.
There's a handful of you that I know in real life, you've already been automatically transferred over to Substack, otherwise, you'll have to manually go over there to subscribe again. I didn't feel comfortable just bombarding your inbox with my posts from a new website. Link below:
As for what's in store... The next big thing is the off-season preview. That will come out sometime this week. I'm also going to be in the process of searching for contributors, more details coming in the summer.
Finally, and perhaps the biggest "maybe" of them all... I might start a podcast. Substack comes with a podcast page, which got me thinking. If I do a podcast, it'll essentially be the Hawks weekly update in audio form. Think a 15 min. news read to you by a bald dude with a beard.
Album of the Week: My Bloody Valentine, Loveless
Shoegaze is one of those genres that I keep coming back to from time-to-time. I actually have a lot of personal ties with My Bloody Valentine and the Blackhawks. Both were there for some interesting times in my life. If you like a wall of noise blasting your ears with a sense of nostalgia, check this album out.
Weekly Updates
- The Blackhawks 2023-2024 Season Recap is out. You should check it out if you want to relive the best and the worst of times over the past year.
- Kyle Davidson made his first long term signing of his career. Alex Vlasic was signed for 6 years carrying a salary cap hit at $4.6mil. The hometown kid will be here until 2030. He was the best defenseman the Hawks had this previous season, and I don't think there's any argument there. For someone who's turning 23 this year, that's impressive.
- Powers and Laz put out an article grading all the Hawks players. It's pay-walled, but here is the link.
- The Draft Lottery was announced to take place on the night of Tuesday, May 7. Get ready.
The Pig Trough
The playoffs started this weekend with the Hogs taking on the Grand Rapid Griffins in the first round.
The IceHogs lost Game 1 3-2 in OT and from what I've seen, this was the result from a pretty bad non-call by the refs. Michal Teply scored the first Hogs goals after a nasty pass by Lukas Reichel.
Zach Sanford scored the other Hogs goal after receiving a backhanded pass from Mike Hardman. Sanford also made his first appearance since his injury on April 13.
Despite giving up a 2-0 lead, the IceHogs looked good. The OT controversy came when Brett Seney was down on the ice and play continued. Seney looked like he was in serious pain.
Sick Bay
- Taylor Hall – Knee/Out for season
- Reese Johnson - Concussion/unknown
- Connor Murphy - undisclosed/day-to-day
