Why on earth am I writing a game recap about a 5-0 blowout?

This game had zero impact on the Hawks other than the players feeling really bad about themselves.

There's not a lot to talk about.

Connor Bedard needs talent to complement his playing style and the defense is pretty ugly. It's the same ol' song.

The game started off decent. The Hawks were putting up a fight and looked good. The Avs were outshot 13-10 and the Hawks had moments of good offensive zone pressure.

Despite a late first-period goal by Zach Parise, there was hope the Hawks were in the fight.

Speaking of that goal, take a look below.

Kevin Korchinski was left to fend a 2-on-1 by himself. The issue stemmed from Anthony Beauvillier making a terrible turnover and Jaycob Megna not playing defense. A trend that would continue throughout the night.

Any hope of the Hawks making this an interesting battle for a W came crashing down when the Avs scored on the powerplay in the second period. With seconds left in the powerplay, what looked like an ok penalty kill by the Hawks was erased when Megna decided to not play defense... again.

This pissed off Petr Mrazek who was not getting help from the defense at all. 42 seconds later, the Avs would go up 3-0.

Reese Johnson tried to get the team going by getting into a fun fight.

Devon Toews would make it 4-0 to close the second period and Nathan MacKinnon would score a beauty of a goal to make it 5-0 in the third.

And so the game ended.

Bedard was frustrated and it showed. He slumped his head down on the bench and attempted to Falcon Punch his wrath through the boards. He had a great attempt in which he danced around the Avs defenders only to run into Mackenzie Entwistle. Moments like this are when you realize that the kid needs talent out there with him. There were a lot of moments when Bedard made a slick pass to Kurashev or another Hawks player and they bobbled the puck. When no one can read the playing field as fast as he can, Bedard resorts going solo mode and putting himself into situations like the Entwistle bender-fender.

Megna looked ok most of the time since he's been here, but last night was a really bad and ugly game for him. I want to add more garbage adjectives to that sentence. Alex Vlasic had another rough game but I'm not concerned. Rookies are going to rookie.

Hawks take on the Blue Jackets on Saturday night, 7pm Central.

Go Hawks.
