Game Recap: Hawks @ Senators 3/28

Hawks lose 2-0 in sleepy fashion.

From Natural Stat Trick

God was trying to tell me not to watch this game. I didn't listen.

After my phone decided to stop connecting to satellites in space (which is to say, I lost signal), I couldn't listen to my Hawks radio feed on the commute home. Then when I got home, ESPN+ decided to take an absolute dump.

But I persevered and decided to watch the game from the beginning, once I got things working.

Look, there isn't much to say about this one other than the Hawks defense looked very sloppy.

After the 1st period, you would've hoped that the team would've woke up. Maybe some echos of Luke Richardson hazing them played in their ears. But we never got that. The Hawks never woke up through this sleepy game. Lukas Reichel, however, looked like he was trying his damndest to get things going. If it wasn't lackluster offense, it was turnover galore.

We can, and should, forget this one. Let's hope the next one is more of what we got in the Flames game.

Thoughts

  • Jones had some solid defensive plays, but it's what he does on the blueline that led to the Senators first goal. To be clear, he's not the one at fault for this one. It's the careless entry and the lack of urgency as Tyler Johnson just watches everything unfold.
  • That first Sens goal came on a Blackhawks power play. We don't need a goal to tell us that the Hawks PP looked like it's old boring self, mostly their first one. They had 1 shot on goal from both of their PP's.
  • Korchinski had a defensive scare in the first where he got outplayed. Lucky for him, no goal.
  • Around the 14 min mark in the 1st, Alex Vlasic had a decent shift. He made strong pokechecks and those subtle defensive plays that go unnoticed.
  • The Sens 2nd goal was a result of a really bad defensive play from Bedard and a goal that Petr Mrazek is going to want back. Bedard is an 18 year old in the NHL. These mistakes are going to happen. And he'll learn from them.
  • Bedard sure can pass a puck though.
  • Wyatt Kaiser looked alright. You can see the improvements in his game compared to the start of the season. He had an expected goals against share of .44.
  • Reichel had some good looks tonight and he had a really solid drive to the net that would have been an amazing goal.
  • Jaycob Megna pissed off Brady Tkachuk with a solid hit, who then took offense because hockey.
  • Not much else to say folks, other than this: Bedard can shoot the hell out of that puck. 5 games with no goals and 2 assists in the last 4.

Let's Go Hawks
