Game Recap: Hawks vs Coyotes 3/10

Hawks win 7-4 over the Coyotes. Blackwell has a hatty, Bedard scores 2 goals and 1 assist, Jones has a 4 point night.

Revenge is sweet.

Remember when the Hawks got blown out 8-1 by the Coyotes back in October? Yeah, me neither. I guess I was too busy "glazing" all over Bedard while the Coyotes were apparently winning games. How's that going, by the way? Logan Cooley who? Clayton Keller? Never heard of her.

Tonight the Hawks gave the fans what they wanted. It wasn't perfect hockey. It sure as hell wasn't sexy at times. But it was entertaining. Connor Bedard's chase to his first hat trick was thrilling enough. Throw in a Colin Blackwell hatty, 4 points for Seth Jones, and some spectacular saves from Arvid Soderblom and you have yourself a hockey game.

Let's get right into it.

Blackhawks Coyotes
Goals 7 4
Corsi 76 59
Shots on Goal 41 36
xGF% 62.58 37.42
Scoring Chances 40 29
High Danger Chances 16 8

Thoughts

  • Things weren't looking too great at the start of the game. At the end of a fruitless Blackhawks powerplay, Taylor Raddysh took a dumb penalty which led to an Arizona goal.
  • Jason Dickinson had a solid game and displayed his backchecking skills. In fact, he forced a turnover in the neutral zone which triggered a great scoring chance for Blackwell.
  • Joey Anderson sure does whiff on a lot of chance, huh? I like Anderson, but he is a good depiction of what this team is.
  • Kevin Korchinski had a game tonight. A lot of mistakes in the d-zone. That's ok and to be expected out of a 19-year-old in the NHL. He had a .83 xGA% at 5v5.
  • Speaking of defense, it doesn't take much to start a defensive breakdown for these boys, does it? The Hawks forwards do way too much puck-watching and leave so much space open. I'm surprised that the Hawks only faced 7 high danger chances at 5v5.
  • Was that Alex Vlasic in a fight? Sure was. He had a solid game tonight and his aggressiveness in the OZ was evident. He's a fun player to watch. The Hawks had a 1.75 xGF% when he was on the ice at 5v5.
  • Connor Bedard put up 2 goals and an assist. He had 13 shot attempts and 7 shots on goal. He made a bad read on the Coyotes' second goal, at which point I thought the Hawks were going to have the wind blown out of their sails. But all can be forgiven. This kid is the real deal.
  • Reese Johnson took an uncalled stick to the face. Looked like he had a blowhole coming out of his face.
  • Soderblom had a good night. At times his rebound control looked better, and other times it didn't. What did look better, however, were his amazing saves. I really do hope his game gets better. He's been thrown in the fire with zero defense in front of him. He saved 32 of 36, good enough for a .889 SV%.
  • How many of these "Best Day Ever's" (can that be plural?) are they going to have?
  • The ice, by the way, was pretty bad. Players were falling all over the place.
